Source and origin
The most studied aflatoxin, produced by Aspergillus flavus and Aspergillus parasiticus on crops such as maize, groundnuts, tree nuts and cottonseed.
Physical and chemical properties
| Appearance | Pale yellow crystalline solid; exhibits blue fluorescence under UV light |
|---|---|
| Molecular formula | C17H12O6 |
| Molecular weight | 312.27 g/mol |
| Purity | 98% |
Solubility
Soluble in methanol, acetonitrile, chloroform and DMSO. Only very slightly soluble in water. Degrades on exposure to UV light and strong alkali.
Storage and stability
Recommended storage: −20 °C, protected from light and moisture. Allow the vial to reach room temperature before opening to avoid condensation. Prepare stock solutions in a suitable organic solvent and store sealed at −20 °C. Protect rigorously from light; aflatoxins are photosensitive.
Applications
LC-MS/MS and HPLC-fluorescence calibration, immunoaffinity and ELISA kit development, food and feed surveillance, proficiency testing, and reference material preparation.
Safety and handling
Bulk and kilogram-scale supply
Bulk requirements are quoted individually: purity specification, packaging, lead time and recurring supply are agreed for each project. Send a bulk enquiry with the quantity and application, and we will come back with feasibility, lead time and pricing.
Programmes that start small and will need to scale can follow our scale-up pathway, from development quantities through a pilot batch to production supply, with the specification and supply plan agreed at each stage.
Quality
Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) is produced at TripleBond's own Canadian laboratory, which operates under PHAC Containment Level 2 and CFIA PPC-1 conditions with an ISO 9001:2015 controlled quality-management system. Identity is confirmed and each batch is released after internal analytical review.
Frequently asked questions
- Who manufactures Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1)?
- TripleBond Scientific Inc., at its own laboratory in Guelph, Ontario, Canada. You buy direct from the manufacturer.
- Can Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) be supplied in bulk, at gram or kilogram scale?
- TripleBond manufactures beyond the milligram quantities most reference-material suppliers stop at. Gram and kilogram-scale requirements, recurring supply programmes and custom synthesis projects are set up per project: feasibility, lead time and specification are confirmed for the specific compound and quantity. Programmes that will need to scale can follow our scale-up pathway from development quantities to production supply.
- Do you ship internationally?
- Yes, worldwide from Canada, subject to documentation and regulatory requirements for the destination. Shipping is quoted per destination before any payment is requested.
